What is Integrative Medicine?

Integrative medicine is defined as relationship-centered care that focuses on the whole person; is informed by evidence; and makes use of all appropriate therapeutic approaches, health care professionals, and disciplines to achieve optimal health and healing, including conventional, complementary, and alternative medical modalities.

Dr. Mahmud was fortunate to study with Dr. Andrew Weil, the father of Integrative Medicine who states, "Integrative medicine is just good medicine."

Meet Dr. Mariam Mahmud

Dr. Mariam Mahmud, MD, FAAP was born and raised in Pennsylvania. She graduated with honors in Anthropology and Biology from Bryn Mawr College. She is a graduate of Drexel University College of Medicine and completed her pediatric residency from St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children. In addition, she sought additional training in ADHD and through a fellowship in integrative medicine at the esteemed Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine. Dr. Mahmud realized that her patients were requiring more and more prescriptions and sought additional training to better support them.

She has been a pediatrician for over 15 years and spent a decade in a busy and beloved primary care practice. Dr. Mahmud has a strong commitment to pediatric and adolescent wellness and community work. She has worked with community support for vitamin D deficiency in an urban population, breastfeeding support, run street clinics for the homeless, developed a program in primary care for improved child access to mental health support and currently engages in school health. She is a leader with the American Academy of Pediatrics, PA chapter of the school health committee and the county mental health board. She believes deeply that whole health includes service and community connection.

Dr. Mahmud focuses her practice on the true belief that integrative medicine offers patients a unique and needed perspective to health. She loves working with physicians and values the trusted relationship and referrals to support whole child health. In addition, Dr. Mahmud partners with healers and families as true health involves all aspects of mind, body and community connection. She sees patients with a myriad of needs and conditions but has specific interest in child development, parenting, adolescent and mental health conditions.

Dr. Mahmud is married and has four beautiful children. She spends her free time volunteering and practicing yoga, meditation, and culinary medicine. She believes strongly that she must walk the walk with her patients and families. @dr.mariammahmud

Our Practice

integrative Pediatric Care

There are several options for care depending on the doctor's preference for the best care at any given time. We offer in-person appointments twice a week in Doylestown, telemedicine and home visits when appropriate.

Our Services

We offer comprehensive care for issues like stress, anxiety, poor sleep, allergic rhinitis, asthma, constipation, dysbiosis, eczema, menstrual irregularity, weight and eating concerns, ADHD, and depression.

We also offer a variety of integrative and functional medicine testing when appropriate to provide insight into your child's health. Our goal is to use this information to provide evidence-based treatments and personalized care for your child.

Becoming a Patient

Our integrative medicine intake visits include lab and medical history review, physical exam and initial visit (which may be up to 90 minutes), a written consult, and personalized holistic care plan. The complete plan may include medication, nutrition and diet plan, sleep and exercise education, and needed supplements.

We prioritize safety and evidence-informed plans, knowing that often less is more for children. In addition, we expect to see primary care records and relevant specialty consults and labs to date. This allows us a complete picture to best address needs as we are not a primary care practice. We will absolutely partner with your PCP with permission.

Our Pricing Model

We are currently outside the insurance model, but will work with you to create bills that you can submit to insurance. This model allows us to best serve you with the time and depth of an integrative medicine consult and ongoing care.

We also offer membership packages for a reduced monthly fee to assure continuity of care and relationship building with you, your child and physician, as we feel that true integrative care requires a commitment to lifestyle work and potentially change.
